Memories of Occupation – Pyrgi by Dimitris Argyriou
Germany/Greece, 2024, 10min., Documentary
In April 1944, during the Nazi Occupation of Greece, the village of Pyrgoi was the scene of one of the country’s deadliest massacres. Over 300 civilians — men, women, children, and the elderly — were executed by German troops and local collaborators. The village was burned to the ground.
This documentary gives voice to survivors and descendants of the victims. Through testimonies and present-day images, it reflects on trauma, silence, and the long shadow of history.
