Betel Dreams by Jaime Calachi
2027, 13:26, Taiwan

Every night, Luu works behind the glass of a roadside betel nut stand beneath the fluorescent glow of
Taiwan’s highways. Trapped in a cycle of labor and routine, she escapes into dreams, memories, and
imagined futures that offer glimpses of another life. As reality gradually dissolves into fantasy, the betel
nut stand becomes both a cage and a stage where identity is performed and quietly resisted.
Blending documentary observation with poetic fiction, 檳榔夢 (Betel Dreams) is an intimate portrait of a
young woman searching for freedom, individuality, and belonging.
